South Carolina Building Code Changes

On January 1st, 2023, the State of South Carolina will be adopting the following new building codes.  

-          2021 International Building Code with SC modifications

-          2021 International Residential Code with SC modifications

-          2021 International Fire Code with SC modifications

-          2021 International Plumbing Code

-          2021 International Mechanical Code with SC modifications

-          2021 International Fuel Gas Code with SC modifications

-          2020 National Electrical Code (NEC) with SC modifications

South Carolina will be adopting the 2021 versions of the IBC, IRC, IFC, IPC, IMC, IFGC and the 2020 edition of the NEC. The energy code will remain as the 2009 IECC for this adoption cycle. The current codes are the 2018 versions of the IBC, IRC, IFC, IPC, IMC, IFGC and the 2017 edition of the NEC.

There are modifications that will be made to each of these codes, the modifications can be viewed on the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation website: llr.sc.gov/bcc.
